Richard A. McKinnon Sr., 90
Richard A. McKinnon Sr., 90, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at home in East Jordan.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1922, in East Jordan, the son of Charles Hector and Mary (Bashaw) McKinnon. He graduated from East Jordan High School in 1941.
On June 27, 1942, in East Jordan, he married Thelma Olson.
Richard served in the United States Army during World War II. Richard worked as a master tool and die maker for the Honeywell Corporation. He was proud that some of the components he had worked on made their way to the moon. He retired in April 1986.
Richard was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7580 and a retiree of U.A.W. Local 598.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He also bought, sold and repaired fishing rods and reels for enjoyment.
Richard is survived by his wife, Thelma McKinnon, of East Jordan; six sons, Richard (Betty) McKinnon Jr. of Shelby, NC, James (Kay) McKinnon of Onondaga, Bruce (Stacey) McKinnon of Tehachapi, Calif., Brian (Jan) McKinnon of Traverse City, Daniel McKinnon of East Jordan, and Glen (Loretta) McKinnon of Killeen, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Janet McKinnon of East Jordan; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald R. Mckinnon, on Feb. 28, 2013; three brothers, Charles, Omer and Hector McKinnon; and four sisters, Dorothy Blodgett, Helen Schreur, Reva Walton and Phyllis McKinnon.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc. in East Jordan, with interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at the funeral home.
