HARRIET L. CHANDA
Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet L. Chanda, 74, of South Arm Township, East Jordan, were Saturday, June 2, at the Vanderwall Funeral Home, East Jordan. The Rev. Dale Turner of Marshall, former pastor of the East Jordan Missionary Church, and the Rev. Phill Simmons of
the United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. .
Mrs. Chanda died May 31, 1984 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility.
The former Harriet L. Chaddock was bom Nov. 9, 1909, in South Arm Township. She graduated from East Jordan High School in 1928 and on Jan. 28, 1930 married Albert J.
Chanda in East Jordan. The couple always made their home there.
Mrs. Chanda's hobbies included knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of Jasmine Chapter, Rebekah Lodge, the Mark Chapter of Order of
Eastern Star and the Peninsula Grange. She was also affiliated with the East Jordan United
Methodist Church.
In 1977, Mrs. Chanda was named Mother of the Year by the East Jordan Lions Club.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Jennie) Valencourt of
Grand Rapids, Mrs. Kenneth (Marjorie) Timmer of Muskegon and Mrs. Steven (Linda) Poole of East Jordan; four sons, Jerome of Milan, Lawrence D., Albert G. and Richard J., all of East Jordan; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Helen Tolfree of Kalkaska.
The family suggests memorials to the East Jordan Ambulance Fund or the American Cancer Society.
