Obituary

Virginia Irene 'Ginny' Thorsen Rebec, 71

     Virginia Irene "Ginny" Thorsen Rebec, 71, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at her home in East Jordan.

     Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan.  The Rev. Robert H. Carter will officiate.  Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.

     She was born on Dec. 4, 1931, on the family farm near East Jordan, the daughter of James and Sylvia (Bolser) Folsom.  Virginia lived in East Jordan all of her life.  On Aug. 20, 1955, in Boyne City, she married Ed Thorsen.  He preceded her in death in 1979.

     On July 23, 1983, in East Jordan, she married Frank A. Rebec.  He died on April 16, 1993.           

     Virginia had worked at the canning factory in Central Lake and Mount Clemens Metal Products, now known as Dura, in East Jordan, ITT and United Technology in Boyne City.

     She enjoyed working, crocheting and flower gardening. She was an avid caregiver to many of her family and friends.

     She is survived by two sons, James E. Thorsen and Jackson R. Thorsen, both of East Jordan; one granddaughter, Candace Thorsen, of Petoskey; four stepchildren, Donna (Dan) Lucenko of East Jordim, Frank Gary (Linda) Rebec of East Jordan, Mary Klekotka of Boyne Falls and Jerry (Cheryl) Rebec of East Jordan; one brother, Delbert (Shirley) Folsom, of East Jordan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Kenny of East Jordan and Christine (Earl) Thorsen Hoffmier of Onaway; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Michelle Russell, of East Jordan. She was preceded in
death by her parents and one sister, Elberta L. Kent.             .

     The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Penzien Funeral Homes, inc., in East Jordan.

     Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging.
