Lawrence J. Sweet, 75
Lawrence J. Sweet, 75, of East Jordan, died July 3,1995, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Funeral was held today, July 6, at the Paullin Funeral Home in East Jordan. Elder Gilbert "Gil" Fox of the East Jordan Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiated. Burial took place in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
Mr. Sweet was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Chestonia Township, Antrim County, the son of Herbert
and Belle (Murphy) Sweet. He grew up in the East Jordan area.
Mr. Sweet served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
On Aug. 13, 1947, he married Harriet Kaake in East Jordan. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1983.
Mr. Sweet retired from the East Jordan Iron Works in 1981. He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his mother, Belle Sweet, of East Jordan; three stepchildren, Betty Smith and her husband, Irvin, of Boyne City, Leonard McRoberts of Summerfield, Fla., and Darlene DeGroat and her husband, Art, of Summerfield, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Peck and her husband, Floyd, of Boyne City; and three brothers, Basil Sweet and his wife, Virginia, of Petoskey, Stanley Sweet and his wife, Verna, of Lake City, Fla., and Versil Sweet and his wife, Betty, of Grand Haven. Mr. Sweet was also preceded in death by his father, Herbert Sweet, on March 22,1985.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice.
Arrangements were handled by the Paullin Funeral Home in East Jordan.
