Obituary
Gloria Rogers Meredith, 87 of East Jordan, Michigan passed away on October 25, 2021 at GrandvueMedicare Facility in East Jordan. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2022 in East Jordan.
Gloria was born on January 5, 1934 in Flint Michigan, the daughter of William Rogers and Eva Cannon Rogers (Hartung). Around the age of 11 Gloria’s mother remarried Maurice Hartung and the family relocated first to Levering, Michigan and then to East Jordan. Gloria was active in high school plays and often sang for weddings and other occaisions. She was a Champion Speller and also won a Betty Crocker Cherry Pie Baking Contest during her school years. Her biggest prize in high school, however, was meeting her beloved Jim Meredith. They married in January of 1951, six months before she graduated as he had enlisted in the Navy and she wanted to join him right after graduation. They were stationed in Newport, Rhode Island until sometime in the fall of 1954, when they returned to East Jordan and raised their family. Gloria was an excellent baker and made many wedding and birthday cakes for others. After her children got older Gloria went to work in the Accounting offices at the East Jordan Iron Works, now known at EJ, USA, Inc., and stayed there until retirement.
She and Jim were very active in the community and spent many years caring for older relatives and volunteering at Grandvue. They loved gardening, vacationing and traveling with friends and family.
Gloria is survived by her children Sherry (Douglas) Sineway, Colleen (Charles) Sineway and Jim (Julie) Meredith all of East Jordan; two sisters Janie Jacob of St. Clair Shores, Michigan and Hazel (Neal) Colburn of Naples, Florida; a brother-in-law Thurlan Meredith. Gloria was a very proud grandmother to her 8 grandchildren and 19 great granchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Meredith Sr.; her parents, William Rogers and Eva Hurting; her brothers, William Rogers Jr., and Charles Stewart Hartung.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
