Obituary

Eleanor J. Chanda, 80

     Eleanor J. Chanda, 80, of East Jordan died Saturday, Oct. 15,2016, at the Georgia House in Charlevoix.

     She was born in East Jordan on March 21, 1936, the daughter of Ernest J. and Joyce V. (Kamradt) Raymond. Eleanor graduated from East Jordan High School in 1953.

     On April 15, 1959, East Jordan, she married Lawrence D. "Larry" Chanda.  He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 2004.

     Eleanor worked as a cook for the East Jordan Public Schools from 1971, until her retirement in
1997. She enjoyed baking and her pies were especially good. Eleanor loved traveling out for dinner with Larry, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren.

     She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Celeste) Chanda of Charlevoix and Todd (Yvonne) Chanda of Neenah, Wis.; four grandchildren, Clare, Michael, Philip and Jacob; six brothers, Jim Raymond of Phoenix, Ariz., Louie (Sonya) Raymond of Charlevoix, Phil (Betty) Raymond of Howell, Duane (Donna) Raymond of Grandville, Dick (Starr) Raymond of East Jordan and Doug
Raymond of EastJordan; one brother-in-law, Clayton McKay of Central Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     She was also preceded in death by a brother, Chuck Raymond; and one sister, Linda McKay.     

     The Chanda family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Georgia House in Charlevoix. They were so kind and loving toward Eleanor in her final days on earth.

     Funeral services Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. The Rev. James L. Jordan will officiate with interment following at Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan. Visitation on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
