Ernest G. Stallard, 78
Ernest G. Stallard, 78, of East Jordan, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.rn. on Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan. The Rev. D. Michael Maurer of the East Jordan United Methodist Church will officiate. lnterment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
Ernie was born on Nov. 6, 1924, in East Jordan, the son of Edward and Nellie (Grovenger) Stallard. He served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
On Feb. 13, 1960, in Bath, Mich., he married Sue Shepard. Ernie and Sue owned and operated the Jordan Valley Greenhouse.
Ernie's quiet ways, his great sense of humor and his gentle smile will be greatly missed.
He loved to watch sporting events, especially when his son played ball, and also trying his luck
at various casinos both in Michigan and in Las Vegas.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Sue Stallard, of East Jordan; two daughters, Cynthia (Steve) Sitzema of Charlevoix and Sharolyn (Jeff) Argetsinger of East Jordan; one son, Allan (Shelley) Stallard, of East Jordan; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law and good friend, Clarabelle Weiler, of East Jordan; one sister, Bertine Koch, of Venice, Calif.; and one brother, Ralph (Margaret) Stallard, of Rochester, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl Stallard; and four sisters, Alice Stallard, Stella Kornegay, Leone Addis and Vida Kniat.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 5, and from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan.
Memorials may be given to the East Jordan United Methodist Church.
