Obituary

Viola 'Vi' Dietrich, 79

     Viola "Vi" Dietrich, 79, of East Jordan, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.

     Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at First Presbyterian Church, East Jordan. The Rev. David R. Downton will officiate.  lnterment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.

     She was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of Addison and Laura (Roach) Rice.

     On Aug. 31, 1940, she married Russell W. Dietrich in Toledo, Ohio.  They came to East Jordan in 1953 and he preceded her in death Oct. 12,1987.

     First and foremost, Vi was a devoted wife to her husband, loving mother to her five boys, and the well-being of her grandchildren was always first in her mind. She loved her family.

     Vi was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church. She was the voluntary church secretary for many years. She worked 12 years at East Jordan Community Pool, and worked on the local election board for many years. She took part in the annual Charlevoix County CROP Walk.

     She enjoyed crochetinq, knitting and making afghans for her grandchildren. She also loved to
volunteer with church activities and supporting her friends at church.

     Vi is survived by five children, Lee (Lynda) Dietrich of Duluth, Minn., Bill (Janis) Dietrich of
Charlevoix, Rich (Wava) Dietrich of East Jordan, Jim (Mary) Dietrich of Flushing, Kevin (Arlene) Dietrich of Linden; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn (Paul) Underwood, of Ohio; and very close friend, Betty Nessel, of East Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Edna Jane Bauman.

     The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at First Presbyterian

Church.

     Memorials may be given to East Jordan Ambulance fund or First Presbyterian Church.

     The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan.
