Russell W. Dietrich, 67
Russell W. Dietrich, 67, of East Jordan, died Oct. 12, 1987, at Little Traverse Division, Northern Michigan Hospitals.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church, East Jordan. The Rev. Galen Hershey will officiate. Graveside services at Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan, will be under the auspices of East Jordan Lodge No. 379, F.&A.M.
Mr. Dietrich was born May 28, 1920, in Napoleon, Ohio, the son of William F. and Helen R. (Babcock) Dietrich. He grew up and attended school in Napoleon.
Mr. Dietrich was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
On Aug. 31, 1940, he married the former Viola (Vi) Rice at Napoleon. The couple resided there until 1953 when they moved to East Jordan. Mr. Dietrich was a tool and die maker by trade. He was employed in Napoleon and after coming to East Jordan, he followed his trade at the former Mt. Clemens Metal Products and later Freedman Artcraft Engineering (now Harbor Industries) in Charlevoix. He retired in 1982.
Mr. Dietrich enjoyed crafts including oil painting, chair caning which he taught, and refinishing
antique furniture.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder of the church for eight years. He was currently a member of the pulpit committee. He was a member and past master of East Jordan Lodge No. 379, A.&F.M., a member and past president of the East Jordan
Snowmobile Club; a member of the Elm Pointe Commission Historical Society; a former third ward councilman; a volunteer at Charlevoix County Hospice and for 10 years was a volunteer with the East Jordan Fire Department.
Survivors include: his wife; five sons; Lee of Hibbing, Minn., Bill of Charlevoix, Rich of East Jordan, Jim of Flushing and Kevin of Pontiac; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Aaron (Janet)
Koenigseker of Lima, Ohio and Mrs. Earl (Betty) Leatherman of Naples, Fla.
The family suggests memorials to the East Jordan Ambulance Fund. Envelopes for that purpose are available at the Paullin Funeral Home, East Jordan, where friends may call until 9 p.m. today.
