Obituary
Janet Marie McKinnon, 74, died Saturday, February 4, 2023, at her home in East Jordan surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 29, 1948, in Petoskey, the daughter of Archie W. and Sophia “Sue” Mary (Skrocki) Nemecek. She grew up in East Jordan and graduated from East Jordan High School in 1966. She then attended Davenport College and went to work at Northwestern State Bank, now known as Huntington Bank, in East Jordan.
On June 15, 1968, she married her sweetheart, Donald R. McKinnon, in East Jordan.
Janet worked 20 years as a receptionist at the East Jordan Iron Works, now known as EJ, USA, in East Jordan. She retired in 2008.
She loved working in her yard, casino trips, hosting card parties, waitressing at the Mallard, swimming in the pool and crocheting. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family: children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
Janet is survived by three children, Angela (Arnold) Smith, David (Charity) McKinnon and Susan (Thomas) Cannon, all of East Jordan; six grandchildren, Logan Smith, Lauren Smith, Caris McKinnon, Macie McKinnon, Riley Cannon and Chase Cannon; four siblings; Terry (Joanie) Nemecek of Cheboygan, Barbara Zynewicz of East Jordan, Mary (Fred) Murray of East Jordan and Robert (Roberta) Nemecek of East Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. McKinnon on February 28, 2013 and her father Archie W. Nemecek on October 15, 2007 and her mother, Sophia “Sue” Mary Nemecek on June 7, 2007.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. A graveside service at Sunset Hill Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Michigan.
