Obituary

After a long battle with cancer, Steven Leigh Poole, 75, of East Jordan, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in Tampa, Florida.

He was born in Charlevoix, the son of Elmer and Emily Poole on May 28, 1946.  Steve graduated from East Jordan High School in 1965.  He left to serve his country in the United States Army during July of 1965 and was stationed in Maryland, New Jersey, and Vietnam.

Steve married Linda Louise Chanda on June 11, 1966.  They enjoyed 56 years of wedding bliss.  During that time, they traveled most of the United States as well as Mexico.  They enjoyed just being together.

Steve worked for the East Jordan Iron Works, now known as EJ, USA, for 36 years from 1965 to 2001.  He was able to retire at the age of 55 and enjoyed his retirement.

His hobbies were hunting, especially deer hunting with his son and grandson, Cody, and fishing until he fell through the ice.  He loved working on old cars and always was on the lookout for the next purchase.

Steve coached Junior Varsity football in East Jordan and called all of his players “his boys”.  His son Steve was with him helping.  He also coached 7th & 8th grade track where his daughters, Teresa and Tammy, helped.  He enjoyed watching his kids play all the sports that high school had to offer, volleyball, baseball, and football.  He also enjoyed watching events his grandchildren were in, any time he could.  His greatest joy was his family.  Whether at home or at the cabin, everyone was welcome.  Steve was also an avid reader.

Steve and Linda were able to spend many winters in Florida and he made many friends there.  He always liked the garage sales and flea markets that Zephyrhills had to offer.

He was very involved in East Jordan Lions Club and also served at the district level as secretary and zone chairman for many years, enjoying the fellowship this organization gave both to community and in a much larger level.  He received the honor of Lion of the Year for 1997-1998.  He was a member of the American Legion in East Jordan.

He was preceded in death by both parents, grandparents and his brother, Gary.  Also brothers-in-law, Albert (Delores) Chanda, Larry (Eleanor) Chanda, Romey Chanda, Richard Chanda, Jack Valencourt, and Ken Timmer.

He leaves behind wife, Linda; daughters, Teresa Galmore and Tammy (Mike) Kresnak; son, Steven Allen (Tracey) Poole; grandchildren, Cody Galmore, Tyler Galmore, Joseph Kresnak, Katheryn Kresnak, Jackson Poole and Madison Poole.  He also leaves behind, sisters-in-law, Jennie Valencourt, Marge Timmer, Brenda Clanda and Joyce Chanda and his brother, Nick (Nancy) Poole; many nieces and nephews that meant a lot to him.

On Labor Day, every year, the family was invited to come to the cabin and enjoy the long weekend.  He loved his family.  He will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at the Lighthouse Missionary Church, East Jordan.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service  time.
