Louis R. Bathke, 96, of East Jordan, died Jan. 20, 1991, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, East Jordan.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 23, at the Paullin Funeral Home, East Jordan. The Rev. Kenneth Bernthal of Christ Lutheran Church, Boyne City, will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.

Mr. Bathke was born March 28, 1894, in Horton Bay, the son of Herman and Mary (Brauer) Bathke.

On May 20, 1960, in Charlevoix, he married Mildred O'Melia.

Mr. Bathke lived in the Petoskey, East Jordan area most of his life.  With a brother, Mr. Bathke was co-owner of Bathke Brothers Store in Petoskey for many years. Later in life, he did carpentry work in East Jordan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cribbage, pinochle and story telling.           

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Boyne City. He was active at the East Jordan
Senior Center.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Russel (Edith) Conway of Palm Harbor, Fla., Mrs. Glenn (Marie) Neumann of Elk Rapids and Mrs. Lynn Carson of East Jordan; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the Paullin Funeral Home, East Jordan. The family suggests memorials to the East, Jordan Ambulance Fund or Christ Lutheran Church, Boyne City.
