Obituary
Keith R. Annear, 81 Keith R. Annear, 81, died Wednesday, May 27,1998, at his home in East Jordan. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in East Jordan. The Rev. David R. Downton will officiate. A Masonic service, under the auspices of the Charlevoix Masonic Lodge No. 282 F&AM, will be included in the services at the church. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan. Keith was born March 7,1917, in Stambaugh, Mich., the son of Alvin and Ann (Eade) Annear. He graduated from high school in Marquette in 1934, received his bachelor's degree in education from Northern Michigan University in 1939, then went to the University of Michigan to receive a master's degree in administration in 1951. On Dec. 30, 1940, he married Martha Mehnert in Marquette. He was superintendent at Rexton, Mich., taught school and coached for six years in Kingsford, Mich., and was principal at East Jordan Public Schools, retiring in 1974. Keith was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force as a flight instructor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Jordan, serving on the Session. Keith was also a four-time past master of the East Jordan Masonic Lodge and a member of Charlevoix Lodge No. 282 F&AM. He received the Meritorious Service Award from the Valley of Traverse City Scottish Rite. He was president of the Northwest Shrine Club and Potentate of Saladin Temple in Grand Rapids in 1984. Keith served as councilman for East Jordan, president of Rotary, Charlevoix County commissioner, and president and secretary of the Regional Principals' Association. He was a member of the North Central Association and chaired several evaluation and accreditation committees. He enjoyed many interests in life including golf, playing bridge, hunting, fishing and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Martha Annear, of East Jordan; three children, Judy (Loren) Wycoff of Omer, Richard (Dorothy) Annear of Bridgeport, and Sue (Thomas) Steggall of East Jordan; six grandchildren, Tracy Annear of Ann Arbor, Carie (Jeff) Mount of Ludington, Keith Annear of Bridgeport, Steven (Kellie) Wycoff of Madison Heights, Mark (his fiancee, Dawn Nezich) Wycoff of Utica, and Miko (Trinesha) Goebel of Grand Ledge; three great-grandchildren, Kylie Mount, Richard Annear and Jordan Michael Goebel; one brother, Earl (Rosemary) Annear, of Iron Mountain; and one sister, Barbara (Joe) Conery of Iron Mountain. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Paullin-Penzien Funeral Home in |
